The "Combined Defence Services" The examination is conducted twice a year by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment into the Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Indian Air Force Academy. Examination pattern: Written exam, followed by a private interview (Intelligence and Personality Test) and a medical examination.

Candidates qualifying the written check are interviewed by the Service Choice Board and if finally selected, depending upon the selection given by the candidates and their advantage list ranking, are sent to one of the subsequent institutes for orientation coaching:

(a) Indian Military Academy, Dehradun

(b) Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala

(c) Air Force Academy, Hyderabad

(d) Officers Training Academy, Chennai

Age criteria:

​

  • Indian Military Academy (IMA): 19-24 years

  • Officers Training Academy (OTA): 19-25 years

  • Air Force Academy: 19-23 years

  • Naval Academy: 19-22 years

  Educational Qualifications:

​

  • IMA & OTA: Degree of a recognized University or equivalent

  • Naval Academy: B.Sc. with Physics & Mathematics or Bachelor of Engineering

  • Air Force Academy: B.Sc. with Physics and/or Mathematics or Bachelor of Engineering

  CDS Exam Pattern

​

  • CDS 2017 exam has been divided into various parts including written examination, interview, and personality test.

  • CDS 2017 exam will be organized in offline mode where applicants need to mark their answers on an OMR sheet

  • CDS exam papers include multiple choice objective type questions only

  • CDS 2017 exam papers for General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics will be in Hindi and English language

  • Negative marking of one-third of the marks assigned to a specific question is applicable in the Objective Type Question Papers

  • If candidates give multiple answers, it will be considered wrong with the penalty of negative marking

  • No electronic or communication device including mobile phones, calculator, and Bluetooth are allowed in the examination hall

  Selection Procedure

  • The candidates will be provided admission to INA, IMA, Air Force Academy, and Officers’ Training Academy through Written Examination, Personality Test and Interview

  • The candidates will be placed in the order of merit on the basis of the total marks secured by them in the written examination and in the SSB tests. The final selection will be made in order of merit subject to medical fitness and suitability in all other respects and number of vacancies available
